Gleevec

When I first learned that I would be taking Gleevec I had no idea of just how rare GIST was and why I would be taking Gleevec.  I did a lot of searching and got a lot of information from different people in support groups.  However, I found that the best information came directly from Novartis (makers of Gleevec) through the different pages on their website.  So as not to be confused when you read different things about Gleevec you should know that it is known as GleevecĀ® (imatinib mesylate) in the US but Glivec outside of the US.  I read about the many side effects that Gleevec might have and was very concerned.  I did get the rash after a few weeks and it seems that everyone gets it to some degree or another.  However, I found that I did not experience most of the side effects and in fact wound up feeling quite good.  I take 400mg. daily and have regular scans.  So far I amd doing well, remaining NED (as they say - standing for no evidence of disease).
